Geely 2.2MW EV Charging Tech Explained for Pakistan

Geely has shown off a new 2.2MW smart charging system that it says can charge a compatible EV from 10% to 70% in about 4.5 minutes. In simple terms, that is close to the time many petrol drivers spend at a fuel pump.

According to a source report at the system is called Geely Smart Charge and uses a single-gun peak output of 2,250kW, or 2.25MW. The same report says a compatible vehicle can reach 10% to 97% in 8 minutes and 40 seconds under normal ambient conditions.

That sounds like a huge leap for EV owners, but there is an important catch: these numbers are not for every electric car. They depend on the battery, the car’s electrical setup, charger support, and even temperature.

What makes the claim possible?

The report says Geely pairs this charger with AI-based battery and thermal control through its Xingrui PowerMind energy model. That system is meant to watch battery temperature and adjust charging power so the pack stays within safe limits.

That matters because charging at megawatt levels creates major heat. Without tight control, the battery could slow down charging or take damage. So the headline number is not just about raw power. It is also about how well the car can manage that power.

The report adds that a Lynk & Co 10 using the new battery system reached a peak charging rate of 1,093kW during testing. That is far above what most public chargers can deliver today.

Not every Geely EV will charge this fast

The report says Geely’s newer Aegis Golden Brick battery comes in different versions. The higher-output 12C version is used in models such as the Lynk & Co 10 and Zeekr 001. A 6C version is going into the updated Geely Galaxy E5, which is sold in some markets as the Geely EX5.

For that 6C battery, the reported charging time is about 8 minutes and 25 seconds from 10% to 70%.

So if Pakistani buyers hear about the 4.5-minute claim, they should not assume every EX5 or every future Geely EV will do the same thing. The result can change with the battery type and the charging setup.

Why Pakistan should care

This technology matters locally because Geely is expected to enter Pakistan through Bestway Automotive. The EX5 family is part of the brand’s likely future lineup here, but Pakistan-specific battery and charging specs have not been confirmed in the source report.

That is the real issue for buyers. A super-fast EV is only useful if the charger is available where you drive. Pakistan’s public charging network is still far from ready for multi-megawatt charging at scale, and even 300kW-plus stations are still limited.

So while Geely’s new charger is a big technical step, it does not change the fact that infrastructure decides how useful the car will be in daily life.

Should buyers wait?

Yes, buyers should be careful before booking an EX5 based on this headline alone. They should first check:

• the local battery version

• charger compatibility

• warranty terms

• home charging options

• public charger access on their usual routes

• service support in Pakistan

For many people, home charging matters more than ultra-fast public charging. Drivers who mostly top up overnight may gain less from megawatt charging than people who travel between cities often.
