Sazgar has launched the GWM Tank 500 as a locally assembled model. This replaces the imported version that cost Rs 4.5 crore. The new ones are much cheaper and come in two hybrid variants: HEV and PHEV. These are Pakistan's first locally built full-size hybrid SUVs.

The price drop comes from local assembly. It makes the Tank 500 more reachable for buyers who want a big, capable SUV without the high import costs. GWM, through Sazgar, has been building cars in Pakistan for a while. This launch takes things up a notch.

The Price Drop That Changes Things

The imported Tank 500 was priced at Rs 4.5 crore. Now, the local versions start at Rs 2.05 crore. That's a big saving. It opens the door for more people to consider a premium hybrid SUV.

Local assembly helps avoid heavy import duties. It also supports local jobs and parts. For buyers, it means the same big SUV with hybrid benefits at a lower price.

Variants and Pricing

There are two options:

  • Tank 500 HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle): Rs 20.5 million (ex-factory). This is a 7-seater.

  • Tank 500 PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle): Rs 22.5 million (ex-factory). This is a 5-seater.

The HEV uses a hybrid system that combines petrol and electric power without plugging in. The PHEV adds a larger battery for pure electric driving and can be charged.

Both are built on a body-on-frame chassis, which is good for off-road use and tough conditions.

Booking and Delivery Details

Bookings start on January 26, 2026. The booking amount is Rs 3 million for the HEV and Rs 3.5 million for the PHEV. Deliveries are expected in 3 to 4 months.

Buyers can book through Sazgar dealers or official channels. More details will come soon.

Key Specifications

The Tank 500 is a full-size SUV. It measures about 5,078 mm long, 1,934 mm wide, and 1,905 mm high, with a 2,850 mm wheelbase.

HEV Variant

  • Engine: 2.0L turbo petrol-electric hybrid

  • Power: 246 hp

  • Torque: 648 Nm

  • Gearbox: 9-speed automatic

  • Hybrid tech: Dedicated Hybrid Technology (DHT)

PHEV Variant

  • Engine: 2.0L turbo petrol

  • Combined power: 402 hp

  • Combined torque: 750 Nm

  • Drivetrain: Hi4-T 4WD

  • Battery: 37.11 kWh

  • Electric range: Up to 102 km (WLTP)

  • Charging: AC up to 6.5 hours, DC fast up to 24 minutes

Both have 4WD and off-road modes like sport, snow, sand, plus downhill assist and off-road cruise control.

Interior and Comfort Features

Inside, it's premium. Seats are Nappa leather with heating, ventilation, massage, memory, and welcome functions. The front seats adjust electrically. There's a 14.6-inch touchscreen, 12-speaker audio, panoramic sunroof, and rear touch controls. Active noise cancellation keeps the cabin quiet. The PHEV has a heated steering wheel and side mirrors.

Safety and Technology

Safety includes 6 airbags, ADAS (advanced driver assistance), 540° cameras, and a 360° view. The PHEV adds V2L (vehicle-to-load) power output.

The exterior has bold grilles, alloy wheels (18-inch on HEV, 20-inch on PHEV), automatic side steps, and a full-size spare tire.

Off-Road Capability

The Tank 500 is built tough. It has differential locks, tank turn (zero-radius turning), and modes for different terrain. This makes it a good choice for Pakistan's roads and off-road trails.

Why This Launch Matters

This is a step forward for Pakistan's auto market. It brings full-size hybrid SUVs to local production. Hybrids help with fuel costs and emissions. The price makes it compete with models like the Toyota Land Cruiser or Prado, but with modern hybrid tech.

Buyers get luxury, space, and efficiency in one package. It's a practical choice for families or those who need a capable vehicle.

Sazgar and GWM are expanding their lineup. More details on specs and colors will come soon. If you're in the market for a big SUV, this is worth watching. For more updates, visit DrivePK.com
