McLaren Racing is putting five genuine, race-used Formula 1 cars from its private collection up for sale, including a 2023 car later tested by Brad Pitt during work on F1: The Movie. According to source reports at https://sportstar.thehindu.com/motorsport/f1-mclaren-five-historic-cars-sale-senna-hamilton-norris-brad-pitt-latest-racing/article71601033.ece and https://nxtbets.com/mclaren-sells-five-historic-formula-1-cars-through-tom-hartley-jr, each car is expected to fetch around £5 million to £10 million. This is not a normal car sale. These are collector-grade machines, sold one by one through specialist dealer Tom Hartley Jnr. For most buyers, this is less about road use and more about owning a piece of Formula 1 history.
The five cars in the sale
The line-up covers more than 30 years of McLaren racing:
- MP4/6A #04, 1991 — raced by Gerhard Berger and later tested by Ayrton Senna
- MP4/6A #07, 1991 — raced by Berger and also tested by Senna
- MP4/27A #01, 2012 — raced by Jenson Button and tested by Lewis Hamilton
- MCL35M #01, 2021 — raced by Lando Norris and linked to McLaren’s Gulf-liveried Monaco run
- MCL37A #03, 2023 — raced by Norris and later tested by Brad Pitt
The two 1991 cars are the oldest in the group and come from McLaren’s Senna era, when the team was powered by Honda’s naturally aspirated V12. That was a high point for the team, and the cars carry strong championship-era appeal.
The 2012 MP4/27A marks a different phase. It links two of the sport’s biggest modern names, Button and Hamilton, while also representing McLaren’s V8 era.
The 2021 MCL35M brings the modern turbo-hybrid age into the story. It also has a stronger recent race record, making it attractive to buyers who want a car with more current relevance.
The 2023 car is likely the headline item. Source reports say it is McLaren’s most modern F1 car ever offered to a private buyer, and its Brad Pitt test adds a rare pop-culture twist.
Why McLaren is selling them
According to source reports, McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown said these cars were built to be driven and enjoyed, not kept hidden in storage. That matters because many historic race cars end up as display pieces. McLaren appears to want these machines to stay active in the right hands.
The company also plans to prepare the cars for their new owners before delivery.
What a buyer really gets
A buyer will not just receive a trophy car. Owning one of these machines means dealing with specialist support, transport, storage, servicing, and track-day logistics. These cars are not road toys. They are race cars that need the right people, the right place, and the right budget.
For a Pakistani collector, the real challenge would be much bigger than the sticker price. Import duties, currency conversion, shipping, climate-controlled storage, and engineering support would all add serious cost.
Why this sale stands out
McLaren is offering a rare mix of old and new: Senna-era V12 history, Button-Hamilton-era engineering, Norris’s recent race cars, and a Brad Pitt-linked 2023 machine. That kind of factory-backed provenance is what serious collectors chase.
The final choice for any buyer will depend on what they value most: sound, heritage, driver history, or the chance to own the newest F1 car ever offered for private sale.
