Petrol Up Rs4.45, Diesel Down Rs2 from Aug 6

Drivers across Pakistan woke up to another price shift on August 6. Petrol went up. Diesel came down a bit.

The government raised petrol by Rs4.45 per litre. It now sells at Rs333.01. High-speed diesel dropped by Rs2.00 per litre to Rs383.86. These rates started at midnight and stay in place until the next daily review.

This follows the daily pricing system that began in mid-July. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority sets the rates each day. It looks at average international prices from the past seven working days plus the exchange rate. Global oil markets have stayed jumpy because of tensions between the US and Iran. That is why the old weekly system was dropped.

Petrol remains the fuel most people use every day for cars, motorcycles and rickshaws. Diesel hits transporters, farmers and factories harder. Even a small change shows up in transport costs and food prices.

Taxes and duties stay the same for now. Petrol carries about Rs110 per litre in taxes and duties. Diesel carries around Rs96.

Recent Daily Price Moves

Prices have moved almost every day since the new system started. The pattern is not steady upward. Some days both fuels rise. Some days one rises and the other falls. Overall, both sit higher than mid-July levels.

Petrol has risen about Rs22 per litre since daily pricing began. Diesel has risen more than Rs60. Earlier peaks this year were much higher; petrol touched over Rs450 and diesel over Rs520 in April.

The daily system aims to keep local prices closer to global costs. Dealers have complained that frequent changes make business hard. Transporters have talked about protests. For ordinary users, the effect is simple: fill-ups cost a little more or less depending on the day.
