Rawalpindi gets its first electric bus service next week. Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz will cut the ribbon. The city moves closer to clean, quiet rides.

First 10 Routes Ready

Ten lines cover the main areas. Start with 45 buses. Another 35 wait in the depot. All 80 will roll out soon.

Key stops include:

  • Saddar to Faizabad

  • Committee Chowk to Chandni Chowk

  • Liaquat Bagh to Airport Road

Full list drops on the Punjab Transport app this week.

Charging Setup in Place

A temporary station runs at the old GTS bus stand. Plug in overnight. The main charging station on Peshawar Road will be ready by early 2026.

Each bus charges for 4 hours. Batteries last 200 km per shift. No range worries on city loops.

Drivers and Staff Trained

Drivers finished two weeks of classes. They know the routes, brakes, and regen system. Ticketing staff stand ready. Conductors guide first-time riders.

Skip Kutchery Chowk for Now

Road work blocks the chowk. Buses detour via Murree Road or Saidpur Road. Signs go up on Monday. Delays stay under 5 minutes.

Why Electric Matters Here

Rawalpindi chokes on smoke. Diesel buses spit black clouds at Raja Bazaar. Electric ones run silently. Zero tailpipe fumes. Kids breathe easier near schools.

Fares match current Daewoo rates, Rs. 30 to Rs. 50 per trip. No extra for green.

Daily Rider Wins

  • Board with ease, low floors, no steps.

  • AC works even in 45°C heat.

  • USB ports charge phones.

  • GPS tracks buses live on your screen.

Bigger Picture for Punjab

Lahore tested electric buses last year. Rawalpindi follows. Faisalabad and Multan plan fleets by 2027. Punjab builds a network of clean corridors.

Catch the First Ride

Service starts November 24, 2025. First bus leaves Saddar at 6 AM. Free rides all morning. Bring the family. Snap a photo.

Download the Rawalpindi Electric Bus app for schedules. Or check stops for paper timetables.

Small Changes, Big Impact

One electric bus cuts 30 tons of CO2 yearly. Multiply by 80. Air improves block by block.

Traffic eases too. Fewer private cars when buses run every 10 minutes.

Stay Updated

Follow Punjab Mass Transit on X or Facebook. Route changes post fast. Construction ends, Kutchery Chowk reopens.

Rawalpindi steps up. The hum of electric motors replaces engine roar. And commutes get simpler.

Your next trip to 6th Road might cost less and pollute nothing. Hope on next week. For more updates, visit DrivePK.com
