A Chinese electric sedan just beat one of Ferrari's fastest road cars in a straight-line race. The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra took on the Ferrari SF90 XX in Abu Dhabi, and the results surprised a lot of people.

Carwow set up the test on a sandy track after a sandstorm. Conditions were not perfect, grip was low, and that played into the hands of cars with good traction control.

Mat Watson drove the Xiaomi, and the Ferrari had its own driver. They ran quarter-mile and half-mile drags. Xiaomi won both times.

What Is the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra?

The SU7 Ultra is Xiaomi's top electric sedan. It has three electric motors that make 1,526 horsepower and 1,305 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive helps put that power down.

It weighs about 5,200 pounds, which is heavy for a performance car. But Xiaomi says it hits 0-62 mph in under 2 seconds. The price in China is around $73,000.

The Ferrari SF90 XX

The SF90 XX is a track-focused version of Ferrari's hybrid supercar. It has a twin-turbo V8 plus electric motors for 1,016 horsepower total. It is much lighter at around 3,660 pounds.

The price? Close to $900,000. It is built for speed and handling, but it relies on a mix of gas and electric power.

How the Race Went Down

The quarter mile went to the Xiaomi in 9.3 seconds. The Ferrari took 10.2 seconds.

For the half mile, the Xiaomi clocked 14.5 seconds. The Ferrari needed 15.7 seconds.

Xiaomi pulled ahead right from the start. Its electric motors give instant torque, and the all-wheel drive handled the sandy surface well. The Ferrari struggled to get its power down cleanly.

They also did a braking test from 100 mph. Here, the Ferrari stopped shorter its lighter weight and track-tuned brakes helped.

But in pure acceleration, the Xiaomi was stronger.

Why Did Xiaomi Win?

Electric cars have an edge in straight-line speed. They deliver full torque from zero rpm. No need to wait for a turbo to spool up.

The SU7 Ultra's three motors and smart traction system worked well on the loose sand. The Ferrari's hybrid setup is powerful, but it could not match the EV's launch.

The price difference is huge. For a fraction of the Ferrari's cost, you get more raw power.

This is not the only win for the SU7 Ultra. It set a record at the Nürburgring for electric cars.

What This Means for the Car World

EVs are getting faster every year. Brands like Xiaomi are showing that you do not need a huge budget to beat top supercars in some areas.

It is not the end for cars like the Ferrari. The SF90 XX is better in corners and braking. But in a straight line, EVs can surprise.

This race shows how electric technology is pushing limits. Traditional brands are taking notice.

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is a sign of things to come. Affordable, powerful EVs are here, and they are ready to compete.
