BYD has posted a sales result that shows just how large its electric car business has become. reportedly the company sold 305,743 battery-electric passenger cars in October 2026. That is more than the 262,649 new EVs estimated for the entire United States in the third quarter of the same year.
It is not a direct like-for-like comparison. BYD’s number covers sales across its wider international business, while the US figure covers one national market. Still, the gap is big enough to show how quickly BYD’s EV scale is growing.
BYD Passes the 300,000 Mark for the First Time
Source reports say October was the first month BYD crossed 300,000 fully electric passenger-car sales. The company’s battery-electric sales were up 37% year on year.
BYD also sold 490,168 new energy vehicles in October. That total includes battery-electric cars, plug-in hybrids, and commercial vehicles. Fully electric passenger cars made up about 63% of BYD’s passenger-vehicle sales for the month.
The company’s fully electric sales also rose for a third straight month. Over the first ten months of 2026, BYD sold about 1.95 million fully electric passenger cars.
The US EV Market Is Still Far Smaller
The same source reports say US EV sales in Q3 2026 were the strongest in a year, but still much smaller than BYD’s October result. US electric vehicle sales were estimated at 262,649 units for July to September combined.
That was 6.1% higher than the previous quarter, but 39.5% lower than Q3 2025. EVs made up about 6.4% of all new-vehicle sales in the US during the quarter.
For Pakistani readers, the point is simple: BYD is no longer just a fast-growing carmaker. It is now operating at a volume that can reshape supply, product planning, and export strategy in many markets.
Exports Are Driving Much of the Growth
Reportedly, BYD exported 170,194 vehicles in October, more than double the figure from a year earlier. Overseas shipments accounted for about 35% of total October sales.
From January to October, the company shipped more than 1.5 million vehicles overseas. Its named expansion regions include Europe, Southeast Asia, and South America.
That matters for Pakistan because stronger export momentum can help a brand spread its products more widely. But it does not mean local pricing, service levels, or model availability will automatically improve here.
If you are considering a BYD model in Pakistan, do not rely on global sales headlines alone. Check the official importer, warranty cover, charging support, spare parts access, and total ownership cost before booking.

The Bigger Picture
The October record is strong, but it also comes with a warning sign. BYD’s plug-in hybrid sales fell 17% year on year in October, while its total vehicle sales for the first ten months of 2026 were still 2.2% below the same period last year.
So the company is growing, but not evenly across every powertrain. Its current momentum is being led more by battery-electric cars and exports than by the full range of its lineup.
For Pakistani EV buyers, that means BYD’s global rise is worth watching — but it should be treated as a signal, not a promise.
