Lahore just took another big step toward cleaner, smarter travel. The Chief Minister of Punjab has officially launched Phase II of the Lahore Electric Bus Project, and it’s already turning heads.

This new phase adds 40 modern electric buses to the city’s roads, along with two new routes from Raiwind to Jinnah Terminal (Thokar Niaz Baig) and from Jinnah Terminal to Harbanspura.

By December 2025, the government plans to add 70 more buses, bringing Lahore Division’s electric fleet to an impressive 500 buses.

A Greener, Smarter Way to Travel

These electric buses aren’t just quiet, they’re packed with comfort and safety features:

Free Wi-Fi and charging ports

  • CCTV cameras for passenger security

  • Wheelchair ramps for easy access

  • And a flat Rs. 20 fare that makes travel affordable for everyone

Even better, students, senior citizens, and people with disabilities can avail a free ride.

Expanding Electric Buses Beyond Lahore

There is an appreciable change in travel, expanding the road map. After strong, successful experiences in cities like Mianwali, Wazirabad, Sargodha, and Sahiwal, the service lead to Nankana Sahib, Kasur, and Sheikhupura next.

Why It Matters

With rising fuel prices and concerns about pollution, electric vehicles in Pakistan are more than just a trend; they’re the future. Projects like this show that Pakistan can move toward clean energy and affordable public transport, one electric bus at a time.
