Pakistan has cut high-speed diesel by Rs32.63 to Rs363.06 per litre from August 20. Petrol edges up Rs2.97 to Rs337.51. The move follows direct talks ordered by the prime minister and aims to ease pressure on transporters and farmers.

Fuel prices shifted again on August 20. High-speed diesel dropped sharply while petrol moved up a little. The change followed talks between the government and local oil refineries.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif asked the petroleum minister to sit down with the refineries. The goal was clear: lower diesel costs for transporters, farmers and ordinary buyers. The result was a cut of Rs32.63 per litre. Diesel now stands at Rs363.06. Petrol rose by Rs2.97 to Rs337.51.
These rates apply from August 20 under the daily pricing system that tracks international markets more closely.
Current Fuel Rates
| Fuel Type | Price (Rs per litre) |
|---|---|
| Petrol | 337.51 |
| High-Speed Diesel | 363.06 |
Diesel matters most for trucks, buses and farm machinery. A cut of this size can lower transport costs and ease pressure on food prices. Farmers who run tube wells and tractors will notice the difference first. Transporters have been asking for relief for weeks as diesel stayed high while international prices swung.
Petrol’s small rise mainly affects private cars, rickshaws and motorcycles. The increase is modest compared with the diesel drop.
Recent Daily Price Moves
Fuel rates have moved almost every day under the new system. Here is a snapshot of the climb before the diesel cut:
| Date | Petrol (Rs) | Diesel (Rs) | Change (Petrol / Diesel) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aug 18 | 331.20 | 390.42 | +5.77 / +6.47 |
| Aug 19 | 334.54 | 395.69 | +3.34 / +5.27 |
| Aug 20 | 337.51 | 363.06 | +2.97 / –32.63 |
The long climb in diesel made the sudden drop stand out. International diesel prices had fallen hard, and local refineries agreed to pass on much of that relief after the government talks.
From September 1, petroleum dealers will also get a higher margin. Their cut rises by Rs1.34 per litre, from Rs8.64 to Rs9.98. That extra amount becomes part of the retail price consumers pay. The government approved the rise to head off a threatened dealers’ strike.
Daily price changes keep the market honest but can feel unsettling. One day diesel drops more than thirty rupees. The next day petrol may edge up again. People who fill tanks regularly now check the rates every morning.
The diesel cut is the biggest single move in months. It gives transporters and farmers breathing room at a time when costs have stayed stubborn. Whether the relief lasts depends on global oil markets and how steadily local refineries keep supply flowing. For now, the lower diesel price is real and already at the pump.
