Faisalabad is about to get its first proper mass transit system. The Punjab government just green-lit the 20-km Orange Line corridor, and work is moving fast.
Full Route Map, From Faisal Town to Tahirpur
The Orange Line starts at Faisal Town on Jaranwala Road and ends at Tahirpur on Jhang Road. It cuts straight through the heart of the city, Susan Road, Satiana Road, Jhang Road Bazaar, Abdullahpur, and D-Type Colony areas all get stations.
- Total length: 20 kilometres
- Total stations: 22
- U-turns for buses: 6
- Depots: 2 large ones
27 Metro Buses + 2 Modern Trams
No heavy rail yet. Instead, Punjab Mass Transit Authority will run 27 high-capacity metro buses and two battery-powered trams on the dedicated elevated and at-grade track. These are the same type of 18-metre articulated buses you see on Lahore Metro. Trams will handle shorter, crowded inner sections.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to Break Ground Soon
Maryam Nawaz Sharif will perform the groundbreaking ceremony in the coming weeks. The date keeps shifting, but sources inside PMA say December 2025 or January 2026 is locked in.
Work You Can Already See on the Ground
If you drive Jaranwala Road or Satiana Road right now, orange fencing and digging crews are everywhere. WASA is moving water lines, FESCO is shifting electricity poles, Sui Gas is relocating pipelines, and Traffic Police are planning new signals. This utility shifting phase will last 4 to 6 months before actual track work starts.
Expected Launch Timeline
- Utility relocation: ongoing till March 2026
- Track and station construction: April 2026, June 2027
- Testing and trial runs: July, September 2027
- Full public launch: October 2027 (target)
Daily Passenger Numbers
Once running, the Faisalabad Orange Line is projected to carry 80,000 to 100,000 passengers per day. Factory workers heading to Chak Jhumra and Satiana industrial areas, students going to GC University and Agriculture University, and shoppers hitting D Ground and Jhang Road markets will be the biggest users.
Ticket Price and Timings (What Officials Are Saying)
- Expected fare: Rs 30 to 50 flat or distance-based
- First bus/tram: 6 AM
- Last bus/tram: 10 PM
- Peak frequency: every 3 to 4 minutes
- Off-peak: every 7 to 8 minutes
Why Faisalabad Needs This Now
Current public transport is mostly qingqi rickshaws and old Suzuki vans that break down constantly. Travel from Abdullahpur to Susan Road can take 90 minutes in rush hour. The Orange Line will cut that to under 35 minutes.
Search trends already show people looking for “Faisalabad Orange Line route map 2025”, Orange Line ticket price, Faisalabad metro bus timing, and “when Orange Line Faisalabad starts”.
The city has grown too big for wagons and rickshaws alone. Factories employ hundreds of thousands who need reliable, cheap transport. The Orange Line corridor hits exactly the areas where traffic is worst every morning and evening.
Faisalabad waited longer than Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi. Now the PC-1 is approved, funds are released, and machines are on the roads. In two years, getting across the city won’t mean two hours of sweating in a packed van anymore. For more updates, visit DrivePK.com
