Geely EX5 Upgrade Brings RWD and 460kW Charging

Geely has rolled out a major update for the EX5 in China, and the changes go far beyond a light facelift. According to a source report, the electric SUV now gets rear-wheel drive on most versions, an 800V electrical system, much faster charging, and a stronger motor. For Pakistani buyers, the important point is simple: Geely has not confirmed that Pakistan will get this exact setup.

The upgraded EX5 went on sale in China on September 23, with limited-time prices from 97,800 yuan to 137,800 yuan, according to a source report at But those prices are for China only, so they should not be used as a guide for any future Pakistan launch.

What changed in the EX5?

The biggest shift is under the body. Most upgraded variants now use a rear-mounted motor and rear-wheel drive instead of the earlier front-wheel-drive layout. Power also climbs to 245kW, up from 160kW in the older setup. Geely says this helps the EX5 reach 0–100 km/h in as little as 5.8 seconds.

There is one exception. The entry-level 530km Global Classic keeps the older 400V hardware, front-wheel drive and 160kW motor. So this is not one single spec for the whole range.

The charging headline is the real story

The most eye-catching upgrade is the move to 800V architecture on most variants. Geely’s new Aegis Golden Battery supports charging at up to 6C, with peak charging power said to reach 460kW. The company claims a 10% to 70% charge in 8 minutes and 25 seconds under normal conditions.

That is a huge number, but it depends on the right charger, battery temperature and local charging setup. In Pakistan, most public charging sites are not built for this kind of power, so buyers should not expect those times from today’s usual chargers.

Range, battery and tech upgrades

According to the source report, the updated EX5 gets three battery choices: 60.22kWh, 61.52kWh and 70.01kWh. Claimed CLTC range figures are 530km, 550km and 635km.

There are also a few practical changes. The car now gets a 160-litre front trunk, and selected trims add a roof-mounted LiDAR unit with Geely’s G-ASD H5 driver-assistance system. The setup uses 27 sensors and supports features like navigation-assisted driving, parking help and memory parking. Inside, buyers can expect a 15.4-inch screen, with higher trims getting a head-up display and a 23-speaker audio system.

For readers, one caution matters here: CLTC range figures are not directly comparable with WLTP or with real driving in Pakistan.

Why this matters for Pakistan

Geely is preparing to enter Pakistan through Bestway Automotive, and the EX5 has already been linked with those plans. That makes this China update worth watching. But it is still too early to treat the new RWD, 800V or LiDAR setup as confirmed for Pakistan.

Local versions can differ in battery size, charging speed, equipment and price. That means Pakistani buyers should avoid making booking or budget plans based on China figures alone.

If Geely does bring a similar version here, the biggest benefit would be faster charging and stronger performance. But the local charging network will still be the key limit.

For now, the safe move is to wait for official Pakistan specs, charging standards, warranty details and service support before making any decision.
