Islamabad Extends Final Deadline for Bus Emission Tests & M-Tags | ITA Last Warning 2025
Islamabad has given bus operators one final week to complete mandatory emission tests and install M-Tags. After December 13, 2025, non-compliant buses and terminals face fines, impoundment, and NOC cancellation as ITA enforces strict environmental and traffic rules.

Bus companies in Islamabad just got seven more days to sort out their vehicles. The Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) extended the deadline on December 6, 2025. After that, there will be no more extensions.
This rule hits every inter-city, inter-district and inter-provincial bus and coach. Every single vehicle needs a fresh emission test certificate and an M-Tag fixed on the windscreen. If not, the bus stand will lose its NOC. No NOC means no buses can park or pick up passengers there.
Why Authorities Are Pushing So Hard
Islamabad’s air has been bad for years. Old buses and coaches that smoke heavily are a big part of the problem. The ITA wants only clean vehicles on the roads, especially the ones carrying hundreds of people every day.
M-Tags are just as important. Motorways now have readers everywhere. Without an M-Tag, buses get stuck at toll plazas or are fined heavily. The goal is simple: keep traffic moving and collect tolls properly.
Many operators kept delaying. They said testing centres were crowded and M-Tag counters had long lines. So the ITA added more spots and gave them last week.
What Happens After the Deadline
Bus terminal managers now have to send daily reports. How many buses got tested today? How many got M-Tags? The ITA is closely monitoring those reports.
Any terminal that continues to allow non-compliant buses to operate will lose its permission to operate. Owners will face fines, and vehicles can be impounded. Some routes might even get suspended until the fleet is fixed.
This is not a bluff. The authority has already started checking buses at terminals in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Several companies have already received warnings.
Where to Get the Tests and Tags Right Now
The ICT administration set up extra counters so no one has an excuse.
Emission testing points:
- D-Chowk
- Lake View Park
- Metro Cash & Carry
- F-9 Park
M-Tag counters (10 locations):
- Kachnaar Park (I-8)
- 26 Number Chungi
- F-9 Park
- Tarlai
- Gulberg Green
- Lake View Park
- Excise Office MRU
- F-7 Gol Market
- Metro Cash & Carry
- Parade Ground
Testing is quick. Most buses pass if they are properly serviced. The fee is small compared to losing your route permit.
Advice for Bus Owners and Drivers
Do it this week. Take all your buses, even the ones sitting in the yard. Get the emission sticker first, then go straight to the M-Tag counter.
Fix any small engine problems now. A dirty air filter or bad oil can fail the smoke test. Spend a couple of thousand rupees on servicing and save lakhs later.
Drivers should keep the emission certificate and M-Tag receipt in the bus at all times. Police and ITA teams are doing random checks on highways.
This Affects Passengers Too
When buses run clean, we breathe easier. When they have M-Tags, they don’t get delayed at tolls, so you reach home on time.
Dirty, late buses give everyone a bad experience. Clean, punctual buses make travel better for families going to Lahore, Peshawar, Multan or Karachi.
Operators who fix their fleets now will keep their customers. Those who ignore the deadline will watch passengers switch to companies that follow the rules.
The Clock Is Running
Seven days go fast. By December 13, 2025, every bus leaving or entering Islamabad terminals must be compliant. No exceptions.
This is the last warning. The ITA made it clear: after this week, action starts immediately.
Bus companies, use these seven days wisely. Get your papers in order. Keep your business running.
Because once the terminals start losing NOCs, it will be too late to cry about it. For more updates, visit DrivePK.com
