Murree Glass Train: Pakistan’s Stunning New Ride to the Hills

Murree has always been Pakistan’s favorite hill escape. But the drive up the winding road, especially on weekends, can turn a quick getaway into a full-day headache. Traffic jams, exhaust fumes, and hours lost in the heat, most of us know the struggle.

That’s about to change.

The Punjab Mass Transit Authority just shared the first solid details of the Murree Glass Train, an electric monorail with glass walls that will take you from Islamabad to Murree in about 40 minutes. No traffic. No stress. Just mountains sliding past your window.

The Route and Stations

The train starts at Lake View Park in Islamabad and ends at Murree Bus Station (GPO). There will be four stops along the way:

  1. Lake View Park (Islamabad)

  1. Satra Meel

  1. Lower Topa (or nearby point)

  1. Murree Bus Station

Total travel time: around 40 minutes. That’s faster than most people make it on a good day with light traffic.

Fares That Won’t Break the Bank

  • Standard ticket: Rs. 500

  • Premium ticket: Rs. 1,000 (better seats, maybe more space or priority boarding)

For a family of four, that’s Rs. 2,000 to 4,000 round-trip. Cheaper than fuel, tolls, and the wear on your nerves driving up and down the hill.

Why the Glass Walls Are a Big Deal

Imagine sitting inside a train that feels like it’s floating through the mountains. Pine trees, misty ridges, and distant views of Kashmir, all in full panorama. On clear days, you’ll see for miles. During the monsoon, you’ll watch the rain slide down the glass while staying completely dry.

It’s the kind of experience people will post on Instagram and TikTok without even trying. The train itself will become an attraction.

Good for the Planet, Good for Murree

Electric trains mean zero emissions on the route. Fewer cars crawling up the hill, cleaner air in Murree. Anyone who has been stuck behind a line of smoking buses knows how much the town needs this.

Less traffic also means fewer accidents, less road damage, and a quieter Murree – exactly what regular visitors have been asking for.

Airport Connection Coming Soon

The Punjab government wants to link the train to Islamabad International Airport via Faizabad. Tourists landing in Islamabad could hop on the monorail and be sipping coffee in Murree within two hours of touching down. That’s huge for tourism.

When Will It Open?

The feasibility study is already complete. The government is pushing hard for an early start. No official opening date yet, but things are moving faster than most infrastructure projects in Pakistan, which says something.

This Changes Everything for Weekend Trips

No more leaving Islamabad at 5 a.m. to beat traffic. No more coming back Sunday night exhausted from the drive. Just park at Lake View, get on the train, and actually enjoy your weekend.

Families, couples, solo travelers, foreign tourists, everyone wins.

The Murree Glass Train isn’t just a transport. It’s the upgrade Pakistan’s most popular hill station has needed for years.

Keep an eye on this one. When tickets go on sale, they’re going to disappear fast.
