Pakistan Auto Policy 2026–31: IMF Talks in October

Islamabad: Pakistan will hold discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in October over the proposed Auto Policy 2026–31 , according to various news sources.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reportedly granted in-principle approval to the policy framework. However, its tax and tariff measures must still be discussed with the IMF before the government can finalize and announce it.

The talks are expected to focus on vehicle duties, tax concessions and proposed incentives for electric and hybrid vehicles. These measures have remained a sticking point because of their potential impact on government revenue.

Pakistan’s previous Auto Industry Development and Export Policy expired on June 30, 2026. Its replacement was initially expected in July and later pushed to August, but disagreements over taxes and tariff reforms caused further delays.

A successful outcome in October could clear the way for the long-awaited policy’s formal approval and notification. Until then, its final provisions and launch date remain unconfirmed. For more updates, visit DrivePK.com
