Women in Karachi now have a new way to travel safely on one of the city’s busiest routes.
The Sindh government just started a women-only Pink Bus Service on the Green Line BRT corridor. The buses run from Numaish to Surjani Town. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon launched the service himself.
Why It Matters
Every day, thousands of women use public transport in Karachi. Many face harassment or feel unsafe on mixed buses. A dedicated service gives them space to travel without worry. It’s a simple fix, but it can change how comfortable women feel getting to work, school, or the market.
What Happens Next
The government isn’t stopping here. The same pink buses will soon run on the Orange Line and other BRT routes. Memon said double-decker buses will also start next week on Sharea Faisal, adding more seats on a road that’s always packed.
More Than Just Buses
During the launch, Memon talked about other plans too. Special bikes are coming for children with disabilities. These small steps show the province is thinking about people who are often left out of public transport.
He also reminded the Prime Minister about the promise to send more buses to Karachi. The city needs them badly. Traffic is heavy, and existing buses are overcrowded most hours of the day.
A Step Forward
The Pink Bus Service is not perfect, and it won’t solve every problem on Karachi’s roads overnight. But it is a clear sign that the government is listening to women who have asked for safer travel for years.
For many female students, teachers, nurses, and office workers, these pink buses will make the daily commute a little less stressful. And that’s worth noticing. For more updates, visit DrivePK.com
