You know how it is. Someone pulls up with a clean 0001 or 786 plate, and suddenly their Corolla looks twice as expensive. People notice. They always do.

Good news. Punjab just opened the December auction for special registration numbers. And this time, everything happens on your phone. No standing in lines at the Excise office. No dealing with agents who charge extra. Just you, the app, and whatever number you’ve always wanted.

How to Join the Auction (It Takes Five Minutes)

Download the PITB e-Auction app from the Play Store or use the website eauction-excise.punjab.gov.pk.

Register with your CNIC, phone number, and vehicle details.

Pay the security deposit (it’s refundable if you don’t win).

Start browsing numbers and place your bids.

That’s literally it. You can do it from bed at 2 AM if you feel like it.

Registration and bidding are open right now. Some reports say everything wraps up by December 30, others mention January. Just get in early so you don’t miss your favourite number.

The Numbers Everyone Fights For

They’ve split them into categories so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

  • Platinum the single-digit kings: 1, 2, 3, up to 9. These go for lakhs, sometimes crores if it’s Lahore-1 or something stupid rare.

  • Gold the classics: 786, 999, 0007, 007, 1111, 1234, anything with repeating digits or lucky patterns.

  • Then you have other repeated ones like 2020, 5555, 7777, or low numbers like 100, 200.

  • They have plates for bikes, cars, and even commercial vehicles. So if you’re putting a new Hilux Revo on the road or just a CD-70, there’s something available.

How Much Money Are We Talking?

Reserve prices start low. A normal special number might begin at Rs. 20,000–50,000. But the popular ones shoot up fast.

Last few auctions, Lahore 786, went for over 2 crore. Islamabad numbers hit even higher sometimes. Lahore-0001 usually crosses 1 crore easily.

Even mid-tier ones like 5555 or 0005 go for 5 to 15 lakh without blinking.

If you just want something clean, like 2025 or 1122, you can probably get it for under 2 lakh.

Why This Auction Feels Different

Before, you had to go to the Excise office, fill forms, pray the agent didn’t scam you. Now everything is live. You see who’s bidding against you in real time. You can increase your bid from anywhere.

Results show up instantly in the app. No waiting weeks to find out if you won.

The government says this stops black marketing of numbers. Agents used to buy everything and sell it at triple the price. Now any normal person with internet can compete.

Who’s Already Bidding Like Crazy

Businessmen who want their company name in numbers.

Young guys buying their first car and wanting to flex a little.

Uncles who finally have money and want 786 on the new Civic.

Even rickshaw drivers are going for cheap repeated numbers on bikes.

I checked the app yesterday. Some numbers have already crossed 5 lakh in bids, and it’s only been a few days.

My Advice If You Want to Win

  • Pick three or four numbers you really like, not just one.

  • Set a budget and stick to it. Things get emotional in the last hours.

  • Bid early to scare others off, then snipe higher near the end.

  • If you only want something decent, avoid the Lahore and Islamabad series. Go for smaller cities — same plate, way cheaper.

Conclusion

If you’re registering a new vehicle or just want to upgrade your old plate, this is the easiest it’s ever been.

Go download the app right now. Browse for five minutes. You’ll probably spot a number that feels like it was waiting for you.

Just don’t wait too long. The good ones disappear fast, and once the auction closes, you’re waiting another month.
