Punjab’s Green Credit Program is seeing its strongest response in electric mobility. According to a source report at ` more than 70% of all applications are linked to electric vehicles, including e-bikes, cars, and rickshaws. That does not mean 70% of people have already bought an EV. It only shows where public interest is going.

The same source report says more than 164,000 people have registered in the program, and 14,647 participants have already earned green credits by completing eligible environmental activities. The program covers 38 initiatives, but EV-related options are drawing the most attention.

Lahore Leads Registrations

Lahore has the biggest share of registrations, with 46,365 participants. Another 114,913 registrations came from other districts of Punjab.

That split matters because it shows the program is not limited to one city, but the strongest demand is clearly coming from urban areas. For many readers, this also makes sense: city commuters are more likely to feel the pain of rising fuel costs, traffic, and short daily travel needs that suit an electric bike better than a petrol one.

Air Quality Work Has Earned the Most Credits

Among the credits already earned, air quality improvement is ahead by a wide margin, with 7,908 participants. Other categories trail behind:

CategoryParticipants earning credits
Air quality improvement7,908
Land improvement2,867
Waste management1,689
Environmental awareness1,492
Water conservation279
Biodiversity258

The figures show that people are more drawn to activities that feel closer to daily life and city transport than to longer-term environmental work such as water saving and biodiversity.

Why EVs Are Standing Out

According to a source report, Dr Muhammad Wajid Ejaz, who works as task team leader for the Green Credit Program, said electric cars and bikes generated the strongest response from participants.

That response likely comes from a few simple reasons: petrol is expensive, electric two-wheelers are becoming more common, and government-backed incentives make the switch look more reachable. Electric rickshaws also matter because they can run long hours and cover high daily distances in crowded cities, so fuel savings can add up faster than for a lightly used private vehicle.

This policy push is also part of a wider trend in Punjab. For background, DrivePK has reported on the province’s EV push through Punjab EV Scheme: 120,000 Bikes and Rickshaws and Punjab Makes EV Charging Stations Mandatory at New Petrol Pumps.

What This Means for Buyers

For readers, the main takeaway is simple: interest in EVs is rising fast, but interest is not the same as ownership.

Anyone thinking about buying an electric bike, car, or rickshaw should still check the full cost, battery warranty, charging access, service support, spare parts, and resale value. A small electric bike may make more sense for a short city commute, while an electric rickshaw may suit commercial use better if daily savings are strong enough.

The next question is whether these applications turn into real vehicles on the road. That will depend on prices, financing, and how easy it becomes to charge and service EVs across Punjab.
