GWM has imported an Australian-spec Tank 300 Hi4-T PHEV to Pakistan for testing. Sazgar brought in the vehicle so teams can evaluate it under local conditions. The plan points to a possible market launch next year.

This is the first clear sign that the Tank 300 PHEV could join Pakistan’s growing list of new-energy SUVs. The model already sells in China, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and South Africa. Pakistan looks set to become the next market.

Tank 300: Key Features & Overview

Tank is GWM’s premium off-road brand. The Tank 300 sits as its mid-size five-seater SUV. It uses a body-on-frame chassis, the same type found on traditional 4x4s. Powertrain choices around the world include petrol, diesel, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid. The version now in Pakistan is the Hi4-T plug-in hybrid.

The shape is deliberately boxy. Round headlights sit in square housings. The upright body, flat bonnet, and squared-off proportions give it a classic off-roader look. Many people compare it to older Mercedes G-Class or Jeep Wrangler models. Yet the cabin feels modern and well-equipped.

Exterior Design and Off-Road Hardware

The front features a large rectangular grille with thick horizontal chrome bars. Round LED headlights sit inside squared housings. The high-mounted bumpers improve approach and departure angles for rough terrain.

From the side, the SUV rides on 18-inch alloy wheels. Ground clearance measures 222 mm. The raised stance and short overhangs help on trails.

At the rear, a side-hinged tailgate carries a full-size spare wheel on the outside. Both bumpers sit high to clear obstacles. The PHEV version adds a charging port on the body, a conventional fuel filler, and PHEV badging at the back. Otherwise, it looks almost identical to the regular Tank 300.

Some test units carry extra body kits and add-ons. These are not part of the standard specification.

Powertrain and Performance Numbers

The Hi4-T system pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor. Combined output reaches around 300 kW and 750 Nm. Power goes through a nine-speed hybrid automatic transmission and a mechanical part-time four-wheel-drive system with low-range gearing.

A 37.1 kWh battery delivers a claimed electric-only range of up to 115 km on the NEDC cycle (closer to 105 km on WLTC). Total combined range sits near 955 km. Official combined fuel use is listed at 1.9 L/100 km when the battery is full. With a depleted battery the figure rises to about 8.3 L/100 km.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 6.3 seconds. The vehicle can tow up to 3,000 kg when braked. It also offers vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability that can power external devices at up to 6 kW.

DC fast charging at 50 kW can take the battery from 30 to 80 percent in about 24 minutes. AC charging from 15 to 100 percent needs roughly 6.5 hours.

These numbers come from Australian and international specifications. Local figures may vary once the vehicle is homologated for Pakistan.

Interior and Comfort Features

The cabin follows an upright layout. Large circular air vents and chunky grab handles reinforce the rugged theme. Two 12.3-inch screens sit in the centre: one for the digital instrument cluster and one for the infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.

The centre console holds a fighter-jet-style gear selector, physical off-road controls, and drive-mode buttons. Wireless phone charging and multiple USB-C ports are also present.

Front seats use Nappa leather. They are electrically adjustable, heated, and ventilated. The driver’s seat adds memory settings, lumbar support, and a massage function. Other comfort items include 64-colour ambient lighting, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, rear air vents, a nine-speaker audio system, and an electric sunroof.

A 360-degree camera system includes Transparent Chassis view. This creates a simulated image of the ground under the vehicle, useful when the high bonnet blocks the driver’s line of sight.

Safety and Driver Assistance

The Tank 300 PHEV comes with seven airbags, ABS, electronic stability control, traction control, hill-start assist, and hill-descent control. A full suite of advanced driver-assistance systems is also fitted.

Adaptive cruise control keeps a set distance from the vehicle ahead. Autonomous emergency braking can stop the car if a collision risk appears. Lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, and lane-centring systems help on highways.

Blind-spot monitoring and lane-change assist watch the sides. Door-open warning alerts occupants if traffic is approaching. Rear cross-traffic alert with braking and rear collision warning protect while reversing. Multiple front and rear parking sensors complete the package.

Why This Matters for Pakistan

Pakistan’s new-energy vehicle segment is expanding. Sazgar already assembles the larger Tank 500 in both hybrid and plug-in hybrid forms. Local buyers now have more choices beyond traditional petrol and diesel SUVs.

The Tank 300 Hi4-T sits in a different size class. It offers body-on-frame strength and real low-range gearing while adding electric-only driving for city use. That combination could appeal to families who want weekend trail ability without constant high fuel bills.

Charging infrastructure remains limited outside major cities. A usable electric range of around 100 km still covers many daily trips. Once the battery runs low, the petrol engine takes over and the vehicle behaves like a conventional hybrid.

Pricing has not been announced. In Australia the model starts near the mid-$50,000 range. Local costs will depend on import duties, assembly plans, and final specification. Sazgar has not confirmed whether the Tank 300 will arrive as a fully built unit or shift to local assembly later.

Expected Timeline

Current information points to a 2027 launch. The Australian-spec vehicle now in the country is strictly for evaluation and testing. Official prices, exact features, and warranty details will follow once GWM and Sazgar finalise their plans.

For now, the Tank 300 Hi4-T PHEV shows that GWM intends to expand its premium off-road lineup in Pakistan. A body-on-frame plug-in hybrid with serious capability and a modern cabin is a new option for buyers who want both efficiency and adventure readiness.

More details will emerge as testing continues and the 2027 launch window approaches. For more updates, visit DrivePK.com
