The 2025 Guangzhou Auto Show is full of shiny new cars. But one that stands out is Xiaomi's YU7 Max SUV in a fresh "Crystal Purple" paint job. They unveiled it yesterday, and it's the first taste of a new program where buyers can pick from up to 100 custom colors. Not just any shades, think deep, glossy finishes that make the car look like it belongs in a gallery.

This purple version isn't a one-off. It's part of Xiaomi's push to let people make their SUV truly their own. The show floor buzzed with people snapping photos, and online chatter is already heating up.

A color program that lets you stand out

Xiaomi promised custom paint months ago. Now they're delivering. The bespoke service starts with the YU7 Max. Owners can choose from a palette of 100 options, each tested for durability and shine. Crystal Purple is the star for now; it's got this iridescent glow that shifts in the light.

Why bother with custom colors? In a sea of white, black, and silver EVs, a bold purple says something. It turns heads at traffic lights and makes parking easier in a crowded mall. Plus, the paint holds up to scratches and sun fade better than basic factory jobs.

Power under the hood

The YU7 isn't just pretty. It comes in two main setups: 2WD for everyday drives and 4WD for when you need grip on wet roads or light trails.

Take the 2WD model. A single motor pumps out 235 kW, which is about 315 horsepower and 528 Nm of torque. It hits 100 km/h from a stop in under six seconds. Pair that with a 96.3 kWh battery, and you get 835 km on a full charge under CLTC tests. That's enough to drive from Beijing to Shanghai without plugging in.

The 4WD steps it up with dual motors for 508 kW total. Zero to 100 in 3.23 seconds. Range drops a bit to 760 km, but you get all-wheel control for rain or rough patches.

Both run on an 800V system. That means ultra-fast charging: 10% to 80% in 12 minutes at a high-power station. No more hour-long coffee breaks on road trips.

Suspension that smooths the ride

Air suspension is a highlight. It adjusts on the fly. Hit a pothole? The system raises the car or softens the shocks. Cruising highways? It lowers for better wind flow and a sportier feel. Owners say it makes city bumps disappear, turning a bumpy commute into something almost comfortable.

Smarter driving with fresh upgrades

Xiaomi didn't stop at looks and speed. They rolled out big changes to the HAD driver-assist system. HAD stands for Highway Assist Driving, think hands-off highway cruising with eyes on the road.

New features include:

  • Low-speed auto braking: Spots a kid or dog darting out and stops before you do.

  • Reverse emergency braking: Backs up safely even if a cart rolls behind you.

  • Emergency steering: Dodges obstacles by turning the wheel if you freeze.

  • Mis-acceleration control: If your foot slips on the pedal in a tight spot, it brakes instead of speeding up.

These aren't gimmicks. They're built on sensors and cameras that learn from millions of miles of data. Early tests show fewer close calls in traffic jams.

Sales that beat the big names

Numbers don't lie. In October 2025, Xiaomi sold 48,654 new-energy vehicles. The YU7 made up over 33,000 of those. That's more than Tesla's Model Y in China for the month, once you adjust for exports.

Xiaomi entered the EV game just last year with the SU7 sedan. Now they're No. 8 globally in battery EVs for Q1 2025. The YU7 is pulling crowds because it's priced right, starting around 200,000 yuan and packs features that match pricier rivals.

What this means for Xiaomi in EVs

From phones to cars, Xiaomi knows how to grab attention. The YU7 cements them as a real player. They're not chasing Tesla on hype alone. Strong sales and smart upgrades show they're building cars people want to buy and drive.

The Guangzhou Show runs through December 1. If you're there, head to the Xiaomi booth. The purple YU7 is worth a closer look. And if custom colors catch on, expect more brands to follow.

For now, it's a reminder: In the EV world, standing out matters. A splash of purple might be the edge you didn't know you needed.
