Hyundai Hybrid Prices Rise in Pakistan After Tax Hike

Hyundai Nishat Motor has updated the prices of its hybrid models in Pakistan. The change follows the government’s decision under the Federal Budget 2026-27 to apply the standard 25% sales tax on hybrid vehicles.

The previous reduced rates of 8.5% or 12.75% expired on June 30, 2026. Without a new concession or full Auto Policy in place, hybrids moved to the regular 25% rate. Hyundai passed most of that increase on to buyers. The average rise across the lineup is about 15.2%.

The revised prices took effect on August 12, 2026. At the same time, Hyundai launched a short-term Azadi Promotional Offer that cuts part of the increase for customers who pay in full before August 31, 2026.

• New tentative price: PKR 14,101,000

• Increase: PKR 1,861,000 (15.20%)

Santa Fe Hybrid Smart FWD

• Old price: PKR 12,650,000

• New tentative price: PKR 14,574,000

• Increase: PKR 1,924,000 (15.21%)

Santa Fe Hybrid Signature AWD

• Old price: PKR 13,995,000

• New tentative price: PKR 16,123,000

• Increase: PKR 2,128,000 (15.21%)

The Santa Fe Signature AWD carries the largest absolute jump. These are ex-factory prices. Final on-road cost will still include freight, registration, and other charges.

Azadi Promotional Offer Softens the Blow

Hyundai is running a limited Azadi Offer tied to Independence Day. It reduces the new tentative prices for buyers who complete full payment by August 31, 2026. Partial bookings do not lock the promotional rate.

The biggest absolute saving is on the top Santa Fe. Even with the discount, every model still costs more than it did before the tax change. The offer simply reduces how much extra buyers pay right now.

Why the Tax Changed and What It Means

For years hybrids enjoyed lower sales tax to encourage fuel-efficient cars. That concession ended with the previous Auto Policy on June 30, 2026. The new rate of 25% matches the standard applied to many higher-priced or larger-engine vehicles.

Several manufacturers paused invoicing for a period while they waited for clarity. Hyundai has now moved ahead and published the new numbers. Other brands have made or are expected to make similar adjustments.

The higher tax raises the upfront cost of hybrids. For many families the fuel savings of a hybrid still matter, especially with ongoing fuel price pressure. But the bigger initial outlay changes the calculation for some buyers.

If you were already planning to buy one of these three models, the next two and a half weeks matter. Full payment by August 31 locks the lower Azadi price. After that date the higher tentative prices become the new baseline unless Hyundai extends the offer or the government changes the tax again.

Compare the promotional price against the old price and against rivals that may still be running their own promotions. Chinese brands and other assemblers have also adjusted or temporarily absorbed part of the tax increase on selected models.

Test drive the cars if you have not already. The Elantra Hybrid remains a strong sedan option. The Tucson and Santa Fe offer the space and features many families want. The tax change does not alter the cars themselves—only the price tag.

Looking Ahead
