Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has given the go-ahead to the design of the Gujranwala Mass Transit System. This project aims to bring modern public transport to one of Punjab's key cities.

The route will stretch about 31.5 km from Gakhar to Eminabad. It includes 24 stations, with two of them going underground. A big chunk of the line, around 17 to 19 km, will run underground too. The idea is to keep traffic moving smoothly on the surface while construction happens.

Officials plan to connect every part of the city with feeder buses. This setup should make it easier for people to reach the main transit line from their neighborhoods. The project also features solar-powered stations, proper depots, a drainage system, and a central command center for better safety and operations.

People in Gujranwala have waited for better transport options for years. Daily congestion affects both commuters and businesses. If everything stays on track, the system could finish within 12 months. That would mark a solid step toward better urban mobility in the city.

Karachi's Karimabad Underpass Partially Opens After Long Delays

In Karachi, the Karimabad underpass has finally opened to traffic, even though work is not fully complete. The project, handled by the Karachi Development Authority, faced delays of more than two and a half years.

Originally, it was supposed to finish in one year for Rs. 1.35 billion. But timelines slipped, and expenses grew. The 1.2 km underpass is now operational due to public pressure. Lighting work is done, which helps visibility, especially at night.

Some finishing touches remain. Yet opening it partially should ease congestion in the Central district right away. Karachi drivers know too well how road projects can drag on and disrupt daily life. This partial opening brings some relief, though many hope the remaining work moves quickly.

Toyota Expects Fourth Straight Quarterly Profit Decline

On the global front, Toyota is set to report another drop in quarterly profits. For the January to March period, operating profit is expected to hit around 813 billion yen which is down 27% from last year. It would mark the fourth consecutive year-over-year decline.

The full-year profit picture looks weaker too, heading toward a three-year low near 4 trillion yen. Strong sales and production numbers haven't been enough to offset rising costs. External pressures are playing a big role here.

Tensions in the Middle East, especially around Iran, could make things tougher. Supply chains for materials like aluminum and oil-based products might face more disruption. Analysts point out that these cost increases could eventually push vehicle prices higher or affect incentives and production plans.

Toyota remains a major player, but these figures show the challenges automakers face today, from raw material costs to geopolitical risks. Read full blog here

BYD Great Tang SUV Secures Massive Pre-Orders at Beijing Auto Show

On a brighter note for electric vehicles, BYD launched its new flagship SUV, the Great Tang, with impressive results. The company reported over 30,000 pre-orders within the first 24 hours at the Beijing Auto Show 2026.

This large seven-seat luxury SUV comes with premium features, strong performance, and a competitive price. It offers a claimed range of up to 950 km, fast-charging options that add good distance in minutes, and advanced tech inside.

BYD is pushing deeper into higher-end segments in China. The Great Tang blends luxury touches with practical family space. If it reaches markets like Australia or others, it could pressure traditional luxury brands by giving buyers long-range and modern features at a stronger value point.

This launch shows how quickly the EV market is moving, especially in China, where demand for bigger, more capable electric models keeps growing.
